We are delighted to announce that Ángel Alonso has joined our firm as a partner for the Special Situations, Restructuring and Insolvency Department.
During his career of more than twenty-five years at Uría Menéndez (where he became a partner in 2009), Ángel has specialized in all types of matters related to opportunistic and special situations, restructuring plans, distressed transactions (credit and M&A), and insolvency issues in general, advising a wide range of stakeholders – debtors, special sits funds, lenders – on some of the most significant and often cross-border cases in this field.
He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), of which he was President in 2016-2017.
“Recommended Individual” in Restructuring and Insolvency by legal directories such as Chambers Europe, IFLR 1000, Best Lawyers and Leaders League in their respective editions through to 2024, he received the Noteworthy Spanish Restructuring Award in 2019 from the prestigious directory Global Restructuring Review (GRR).
According to Rafael Bazán, partner of our Banking & Finance department, “Ángel has been both a witness to and an active participant in some of the most complex restructuring processes in Spain. His impressive track record in the restructuring and special situations sector will allow us to offer even more specialized advice to our clients, especially during times of crisis or uncertainty.” He adds, “Ángel joins our team with a unique profile that combines hands-on experience, international vision, and a strong ability to adapt to market changes, which is why we are confident that his addition will drive the growth of this area within our firm.”
Ángel Alonso states: “I face the challenge of developing this practice area at Araoz & Rueda with great excitement and enthusiasm, fully convinced that we will have the opportunity to work together and successfully tackle these challenges, turning complex situations into extraordinary opportunities.”
Welcome on board, Ángel!
